"Free One-Act play is coming to Ile Beaubears Island Interpretive Centre on August 20 - 1pm in English, followed by French presentation at 3pm. Learn about ‘the coffin ship’ Eliza Liddell and arrival in northern New Brunswick 175 years ago. In 1847, due to famine, 16,000 Irish people emigrated to New Brunswick. Most of these ships unloaded in Saint John, Miramichi or Bathurst; the Eliza Liddell landed in Shippagan. For many, this unexpected landing forced many to have to walk to Bathurst and some had to leave their young children with families in Shippagan. Eliza Liddell The Coffin Ship is a play written by Kevin Mann to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Eliza Liddell’s unplanned landing. Join us for this FREE performance and commemorate the history of our province."
