Jeremiah Russell, born 1780 in Ireland, died 30 Mar 1864, married in Ireland. They came to NB about 1850 and settled in Saint John.

PANB:MC1/Russell: Jeremiah Russell’s sister, Eleanor Russell emigrated to NB, married John Morrison and settled at Oromocto, NB: following John Russell’s death, the widow Mary (Ashe) Russell and their children came to NB.

Michael Russell was born at Carrick on Suir, co. Tipperary, Ireland circa 1790.

He enlisted in the British Army regiment, “Royal West India Rangers” in 1817. He served on the Island of Dominica and St Lucia until the rangers were disbanded at St John, NB in June of 1819.

Michael did not take a land grant immediately, however in 1822 he received a two hundred acre grant, 4 miles below Grand Falls, which he sold the next year.

In 1821, he married Phoebe Yoemans of Hampton NB and their first children John and Mary were born and baptised ( RC) at Fredericton, after 1822. The family lived at Aroostook Falls in the “disputed territory”. The Canada US boundry line eventually ran through their farm.

The later children’s baptisms are recorded at St Bruno’s Parish, Van Buren Maine.

Michael died in 1866 and is buried in the old Catholic cemetery in Ft. Fairfield Maine.
