Irvine, David (1831-1924)
Born November 26th, 1831 at Crimland, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. Of Irish ancestry. Son of Robert Irvine and his wife, Mary Ellis, daughter of John Ellis.
Educated at the public school.
Emigrated to New Brunswick and settled near Centreville, Carleton County, where he engaged in farming, becoming one of the most successful and progressive agriculturists in the district. Also operated a large apple orchard.
Married [unknown] to Miss Jane [unknown]. By this marriage there was a family of two sons and three daughters.
First elected to the House of Assembly of N.B. as one of the members for Carleton County at a Bye-election held November 4th, 1873, to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the sitting member, George William White (q.v.). Sat as member in the remaining sessions of that legislature until its dissolution in 1874, when he retired temporarily from active politics.
First elected to the House of Commons as member for the constituency of Carleton at a Bye-election held March 30, 1881 to fill the vacancy created by the death of sitting member, George Heber Connell (q.v.), deceased. Re-elected at the G.E. of June 20th, 1882 as member for the constituency of Carleton/Victoria and sat as member until the dissolution of Parliament in 1887, when he retired from active political life.
He died May 29, 1924 at his residence, Centreville, N.B. survived by two sons and two daughters.
His wife predeceased him, dying in 1917, aged eighty-three years.
