Dunn, Albert T. (Hon.) (1842-1916)
Born, Feb. 6th, 1842, at St. John, N.B. Son of John Dunn (1804-1889), a native of Derry, Ireland, who came to N.B. in 1818, and his wife, Martha, daughter of Charles Gould, who came from Somerset, England, and located in Sussex, N.B.
Educated at the public schools of St. John; and at the Provincial Normal School, Fredericton, N.B.
Unmarried.
Moved to Musquash with his parents at the age of 12 years. Engaged in farming, and pork-packing business. Served on the Municipal Council Board for many years. Was collector of Customs at Musquash, 1874-1892.
First elected to the House of Assembly, as one of the members for St. John Co., at the G.E. of Oct 22, 1892. Re-elected at the G.E. of 1895, and a By-election held July 28, 1896, made necessary by his acceptance of a Portfolio. Also re-elected at the G.E.’s of 1899, and 1903, and sat as member until 1904, when he resigned on being appointed Collector of Customs for the Port of St. John, which position he held until his death.
In 1894 he was sworn in as member of the Executive Council in the Ad of the Hon. A.G. Blair (q.v), and received the appointment of Minister Without Portfolio, and on July 17, 1896, he received the Portfolio of Surveyor General in the Adm. of the Hon. James Mitchell (q.v). He held this appointment in the Adm.’s of the Hon. H.R. Emmerson (q.v), and the Hon. L.J. Tweedie (q.v.), until March 31st, 1904, when he retired from active politics.
He died, April 30th, 1916, at St. John, N.B., aged 74 years. Buried in Fernhill Cemetery. Survived by a sister, Mrs. C.C. Church, and two brothers Frederick B. and T.W. Dunn.
