 CRANNEY, Martin (1795 – 1870)

Studied law and was admitted to the Bar of N.B. as an Attorney, and as a Barrister.

Located at Chatham, N.B. and engaged in the practice of his profession.  Was Coroner for Northumberland County from 1837 to 1849, and from 1854 to 1867.

Married (1st), _______________, to Miss Anne Waddleton, daughter of Samuel Waddleton, Esq., chatham, N.N.  She died March 17th, 1859, aged sixty-one years.  By this marriage there was a family of __________________.

Married (2nd), ____________, to Miss Teresa ________, daughter of _________________

First elected to the House of Assembly of N.B. as one of the members for Northumberland County, at the G.E. of October, 1846, along with Messrs. J.A. ?????, W. Carman, and A. Rankin (q.v.).  Sat as member until the dissolution of the Legislature in 1850.  At the G.E.s of June, 1850, and June, 1854, he was defeated, and subsequently retired from active politics.

He died, March 16, 1870, at his residence, Chatham, N.B., aged seventy-five years.  Buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Chatham, N.B.,  Survived by his widow and several children.

Mrs. Cranney died February 20th, 1889, aged eighty years.
