SENATOR

Gillmor, Daniel (HON) (1849 – 1918)

Born July 1st, 1849, at St. George, Charlotte County, NB.  Of Irish ancestry.  Son of the Hon. Arthur Hill Gillmor (q.v.) (1824 – 1903), Senator, M.P., M.L.A., and his wife, Hannah Dawes Howe.

Educated at the St. George Public School.

Located at St. George, NB, and engaged in the mercantile business.  Member of the business firms: O’Brien & Gillmor, St. John, NB; Chase & Sanborn, Montreal, P.Q.

Married, November 1877, to Miss Catherine Sophia Duffy, daughter of J.P. Duffy, Esq., St. John, NB (Later Lowell, Mass., U.S.A.).  By this marriage there was a family of three sons and one daughter.

Unsuccessfully contested the constituency of Charlotte in the G.E. of November 3rd, 1904, for the House of Commons, being defeated by Gilbert W. Ganong (q.v.).

On January 15th, 1907, he was called to the Senate of Canada, and continued as a member of that House until his decease.

He died, February 22nd, 1918, at Montreal, P.Q., aged sixty-nine years.  Bureid at the St. George rural Cemetery.  Survived by his widow, three sons, and one daughter.

Mrs. Gillmor died July, 1927, at St. George, NB.
