DUFFIE, William Rutledge (Hon) (1931 – 1999)
Born, April 5th, 1931, at Oromocto, Sunbury Co., N.B. Of Canadian ancestry. Son of Frank C. Duffie, and his wife, Frances W. Rutledge.
Educated at the Oromocto Grammar School; the Fredericton High School; and the Univ. of New Brunswick, graduating with the degrees of B. Sc. and M. Sc. in Forestry.
Located at Fredericton, N.B. and engaged in the practice of his profession as a forestry engineer. Associated with Duffie & Lynch Insurance Co.; and with W.R. Duffie, Pulpwood. Member of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Assoc. Member of the Canadian Institute of Forestry.
Married, September 8th, 1962, to Miss Anne Marie Amos, daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Edward Augustus Amos, Westmount, P.Q.
First elected to the House of Assembly of N.B., as one of the members for Sunbury County, at the G.E. of June 27th, 1960. Re-elected at the G.E. of April 22nd, 1963, and at present sits as member. [Ed. NOTE: these documents were researched and produced in the mid to late 1960s]
On July 12th, 1960, he was sworn in a member of the Executive Council of N.B. and received the appointment of Minister without Portfolio in the Admin. Of the Hon. L.J. Robichaud (q.v.), which appointment he held until November 28th, 1960, when he was appointed Minister of Youth and Welfare. He held this position until March 21st, 1966, when he was appointed Minister of Lands and Mines, which appointment he holds at the present time. (Natural Resources).
